Hello, I'm new here and I'm rather desperate, so I hope someone over here is willing to help me.
I own (recently) an Acer Aspire One with Linpus.
    Great machine, really love it.
But I can't get the Acer to print via WIFI to my HP Color Laserjet 1600, which is connected to my WXP-desktop.
The Acer "sees" the printer in my wireless network, installs it, but finaly comes with the message that the foo2hp26000-wrapper is missing and must be installed.
I managed to locate and access the terminal, to access the XFce settings, to edit the preferrences (right-clic brings up the advanced menu) and to change the root-password.
    I updated Fedora by doing:
    sudo yum -y update fedora-release
    and then
    sudo yum -y update cups

I downloaded the foo2zjs package and unzipped it to a new foo2hp-folder,
BUT, I don't know how to install the file. The manual that came with the package reads:
    $ sudo make install
But when I type this command in terminal, the Acer tells me:
    bash: make: command not found.

No matter what I did (sofar) this message keeps coming-up.

I am under the impression that it is not possible to install new applications, because this "make"-command is missing,
and that the "only" software one can add to the machine is the software that is in the listings in menu-system-add/remove software. Am I correct?

    What can I do?

    Sincerely
    Arie

ps. Please excuse me for my poor English!

    Hello Japser,

Thank you very much for your reply.
Am I correct that I must renew the entire kernel in order to be able to install one printer-driver?

    Sincerely

    Arie

    No, that's usually not necessary.
    Also, have you updated cups?

(I'm not sure if this first step is still necessary--I wound up returning my Linpus version, getting the 160 HD one, wiping XP and installing Fedora)
    sudo yum -y update fedora-release
(QUESTION---is this still necessary? Someone please confirm or correct it if possible)
    However, it won't break anything.
    Next
    sudo yum -y update cups

As for updating. While doing a complete yum update will break things, updating individual packages (many of them) should work without problem. Firefox isn't one of them, that requires a few other things to be done, but updating cups should be easy.

None of this should require a kernel update. Manually recompiling a kernel is seldom necessary these days. (Though it's still a useful skill to have.)

    Hello Scrotto

Yes, I updated Fedora by doing:
    sudo yum -y update fedora-release
    and then
    sudo yum -y update cups

    But still no result.
