My wife is considering purchasing a Aspire 8g version with Linux.

Is it possible to purchase the machine with the larger battery in the first instance, as opposed to purchasing as an upgrade? In the UK.

I have searched for this but have not found an answer.

I have some further questions but I'm splitting these into individual posts for simplicity.

    Thanks,

I'm pretty (not 100%) sure you can get the 8Gb in a 6 cell battery. If not, the battery is about $120 CAD to upgrade, or $50 CAD if you buy it in the box with the One.

I would definitely recommend the 6 cell if you need about 5 hours run time, or just don't want to have the adapter with you. If your OK with 2.5 hours or so run time and a smaller footprint, get the 3 cell in the box.

I bought mine with a 6 cell, (160 gb hdd version though) and later purchased the 3 cell from SourceITs.
