    Hi Experts:

I really need help. I have a VGN-N320E. These are the issues I'm having:
    • Prior to today the screen went completely dead on one side, figured I would need a new LCD
    • Now the screen is completely dead, all black
    • I am getting no sound
    • Fan is not running.
    • The only thing working is the LED lights.
I can fix this with your help. I've already taken the laptop apart but I have no clue where to start. Please help, I am currently seeking employment and I need my laptop. Thanks .

    Something Back...

I forgot to mention, the power button stays lit and the battery light blinks continuously even when connected to the power adapter. I will check out the link and do as you suggested. Thank you.

    One more thing...

I thought it might be the LCD but why isn't the fan working?

Why isn't the fan working? Are the fan vents blocked? Check the bios settings press F2 on power up “if working” will take you to bios settings screen. “Just a thought” Not experienced with Sony's

Ok, thank you. I just don't want to replace the screen inverter and find out that it may be something else. I have been researching through google though. Thanks.

Hi Lady, if you could verify the voltage of the charger, the right voltage is written on the charger itself. If the voltage is good, you already disassembled the laptop so just plug the charger and the screen without anything else, and look if it will POST.

I already reassembled the laptop. Should I disassemble it again? The voltage of the battery is: 19.5V. Tell me in further detail how to do what you suggested please. How can I plug the JUST the charger and screen ONLY.
    Thanks.

Ok, you don't have to disassemble the laptop, just take out the dvd drive, the hard disk and the battery. Push the power button with the charger plug in and look if the laptop will boot the POST program.

How do I take out the DVD drive without disassembling the whole laptop? Also, the charger light is still blinking with the charger in AND the fan is not running.

When you put the laptop upside down you have two screws for the dvd, take them out and slide the dvd drive out, take out the battery and try booting.

Nothing happened when I did that. Same results: LED and power lights are on steady.

I did remove the ram, with the two screws like you told me to do. I'm not sure how to try an external monitor. Can I connect to another laptop and use that screen?

"Can I connect to another laptop and use that screen?"
No, a monitor is just a screen like a tv with a vga input.

Sorry but you don't need to by a monitor. You did what is possible to find the problem. I don't have the right schematic for you laptop, so I can't do more to help you. You have to go to a repair store, they will evaluate the problem and you can decide what to do after. The problem is on the motherboard itself.

To give you an overview. My sony vaio laptop vgn-n320e (which I've had for 7 years has been great). About a year ago the screen developed some red lines, then it went to a half screen and now the screen is completely black. However the LED and power lights stay lit but anytime something is plugged into the laptop, the power and charger lights blink. Thought you might need the full details.

Like you said I think the problem is the screen, but without a monitor I can't know If it's the screen or the GPU. You said the fan is not working, that tell me it's something else.
