If you mean audio but no video, I had a similar problem. I turned off the compositing feature in the window manager settings and that solved my problem. Only took three weeks to find that one out ;)

    Solved

Many thanks! Perfect solution. Thought I needed more codecs than I already installed. Shame we lose the window shadow though :?

Oh Jimster, thank you!!!! It's also around 3 weeks now that I am trying to figure out what went wrong here, I at first thought it had something to do with switching from the original acer start menu to the "original" xfce style and then strangely, it did work when I removed and re-installed vlc and the codecs but it was sluggish when playing full screen...

Thank you, thank you thank you, I love my aspire one again!!!

Sorry, I am a linpus newbie and has my AAO for 5 days and I have the problem with vlc (only audio, but no video). I wanna try your solution, but I can not found the right settings. Please can you exactly explain, where these settings are (in VLC or in Linpus). I am German and so I am using the German linpus, there will maybe some differences and so I need an step-by-step-help!

    Thx
    Stefan

If I am right, it is on the linux advanced menu. windows manager tweak.
I did this, on mine it was no enabled in the first place, so did not help.
I can play mpeg, but only sound on avi.
