Planned mods Q&A

Well my brother's bday's coming up so I decided to get him a 8GB 512MB White Linux 3cell A1, and want to mod it out:

1) Swap out the 8Gb SSD, get a Toshiba MK3008GAL and no need for new ZIF cable, or get a Hitachi C4K30 with flip ZIF cable
Question 1: Which drive is faster? And is it true I don't need a new cable at all for the Toshiba?
Question 2: What about a CF adapter and a 16gb 200x CF? Is that faster than the HDD? And will I need new cable?

2) Add a 1gb stick
Question 3: Is there a list of ones that do work?

3) Install WinXP on it -- trivial, no questions/comments needed

4) Install fido-dido touchscreen
Question 4: Is there a guide somewhere?

Any advice / suggestions? Thanks.

Next time please PM a mod to get them to move it rather than making a duplicte topic

1.. Can't say offhand, but there are benchmarks for both posted in places, probabaly depends on the size too. dont need a cable for Toshiba
2. As above
3. for what? booting? installing xp? files? most will work for all of those 3, as long as theyre big enough for what you need..
4. no a user is in the process of making one right now, in this here forum.

Thank you rory! I have ordered the A1 and got a Toshiba HDD off ebay now. Hope everything will work out fine.

I'm in Canada, ordered the A1from DirectCanada.com for $360 CAD after tax and shipping with full insurance (paid by credit card in case the bail on me)

The HDD is MK3008GAL, Toshiba 30Gb. Got it for $20 CAD and it was sold "as is, wysiwyg", so I'm hoping it actually works...

actually you will need a new cable..i tried the stock one and simple would not work

Great... Ok, will someone who give me an actual, definite answer?
And if indeed the stock one doesn't work, where can I get one that does?
