Pidgin broken after last Communication Suite update (180077)

I updated like a good monkey this morning, but now Pidgin will not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Pidgin, even replacing libpurple. Before doing something more drastic, does anyone have any suggestions?

When I go to start Pidgin, the cursor indicates that it is loading something for about 5 seconds, then nothing. I check the running processes (ps -A) and there is no Pidgin to be found. I cannot locate an error log (though I am probably just not looking in the right place). Any help would be very much appreciated.

Same problem found here. After the Communication Suite update today with Live Update Pidgin no longer starts up. My Acer IM isn't working either.

 

it seems to be again a problem with libpurple, when i'm starting pidgin from console, it says:
"pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_smileys_get_all"

just reinstalling pidgin and libpurple didn't work, does anyone has a better idea?

it's easy... go to the terminal "sudo thunar" and delete or rename the folder "/usr/acer"

Thanks flakes, your tip has allowed me to run my beloved pidgin again for reasons that I do not yet understand. I hope this does not cause any stability issues, but things seem ok thus far. Thanks again.
