Both the Acer US Webstore and the Crucial website offer 2 choices for the Aspire One- either a 1GB stick of PC2-4200, or one of PC2-5300. And I've seen reports on the "What works" thread of both working.

I just wondered- is there any advantage to one over the other? And why? What is the speed of the on-board RAM (as, presumably it will work best to match that)?

    Thanks!

The onboard ram is PC2-4200 (DDR2-533), and 533mHz the fixed fsb of the atom chipset (quad-pumping gives 4*133Mhz). You'll get no advantage in using faster memory, both will operate at 533Mhz.

All new aspires take in PC5300S memory modules (667Mhz)
Let's say the A150 Bb 80 and 120Gb and newer models.
Although tested it seems all is well with both modules.

The 667Mhz DDR-2 modules appeal to produce a sligt improvement in speed, although the higher latency will degenerate that and make the 533Mhz and the 667Mhz modules almost identical in speed.

are you saying that newer AA1s have PC5300 onboard? Or they come with a PC5300 stick, but still have PC4200 onboard.

All new acer boards come with pc5300 installed. I've seen multiple new model.
It's just the cheapest to use in manufacturing atm I guess.
Though you can go with pc4200 just as well. The latency times will be much better.
    No difference in speeds anyway.
