I have noticed using osx not only is my aao run so hot that my hands start to sweat when i have to type for an extended period of time, but also the battery does not last as long.

tell me if anyone has similar experiences or think differently

i hv a150l and hv same problem , its speed step not working so not throttling the cpu down . so cpu / fan running full blast . hence hot and draining battery . i am running kalyway 10 5 2 with TOH kernel and if i try install vanilla / voodoo kernel it still boots with TOH kernel .

The problem is that the cpu doesn't throttle so it runs ad 1660 mhz for all time.
You must to instal speedstep, using speedstep kernel and the software at this link.
I don't use vanilla or voodoo but intelspeedstep and all works correctly.
    Download and install this.

    http://www.nedprod.com/programs/MacOS%2 ... art.tar.gz

Also you can use CoolBook Controller to monitoring temperature and clock.

Superhai's VoodooPower.kext gives me "up to 2 hours" on a vanilla OSX install.
With CPU-x I can see 5 speed steps.

i've a problema using vanilla 'cause my usb port doesn't works correctly.
They mount a device only if i boot up whit this device insered in.
    The same using voodoo kernel.
Using VoodooPower.kext and cpu-x it goes kernel panic when i play audio files in battery mode.

    What does it means?

Using Voodoo kernel, with VoodooPower 1.2.3

Temperature 45-50 (never been over 60, but the fan is at "full blast" :p
MhX 797-930-1063-1196-1329-1595 (switching all the time, and much better than XP, just 797-1595)
Voltage 912-950-987-1096-1100-1125 (Switching according to CPU speed)

Chassis is noticeable cooler than with Windows XP. Music is playing fine with latest iPC and updated One drivers..
And the 4311 Wlan card is much cooler than the Atheros shit. Well worth the usual eBay $10

Thanks Toro for pointing me at Superhai's kexts.

My AAO doesn't run hot at all, which makes me doubt the readings.. When I was running Linux and Windows the temperature was commonly around 60-70 degrees. Now I'm running OS X and I don't get higher readings than 52 degrees on full load while the fan spins very slowly. I'm worried, I don't want the CPU to overheat because of incorrect readings.

Attached is a screenshot of my Acer playing three (hilarious) SD videos simultaneously of a AFP share at full frame rate (I was already impressed by this.. :) ) After 20 mins of 85%+ load non stop the temp still seems to be 52 degrees!

I understand that the BIOS controls the fan, and not OS X OR Superhai's kexts. But what if the BIOS gets a wrong reading as well?

I used Google to find out : type "Generic CPU Power Management Control Mac OS X", and you'll get a few hits. Third one is a topic from InsanelyMac which points you to : http://www.superhai.com/darwin.html

Download the app and that's it.

    *Could* be the BIOS:

    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/12/acer ... -3309.html

    "Acer Aspire One BIOS 3309
A minor version bump with a few changes. Support for System Locked Preinstallation for Windows Vista has been added to the BIOS, and an issue with the battery being locked into overcharge protection and failing to charge has been fixed."

you know what i thought that too initially but.... i also have an msi wind. and the same thing happened to it. i let it sit and after some time i noticed that the battery wasnt werking. today i noticed in the menu bar when i click on the power options it tell me that my battery is not charging. both on my wind and aspire one. i decided to erase osx and install xp. no luck. the battery will not charge. i will update bios and see if it charges. if it doesnt then i guess i will conclude that the battery expired. i dont understnd how but i cant find any other solution =[

Hmmm... i think i just remembered something about battery issues in the blog i mentioned (http://macles.blogspot.com) - somewhere in the comments about the current or an older BIOS, i'm not sure. Maybe you can find something there.

Have a look here for a fix viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10197&start=160#p77852 - the second item in the list. VoodooPower is working great for me now - I get around 2 hours 20 mins on a full charge with the 3 cell battery that came with my AAO.
