Hi everyone,

I'm considering getting the Zenbook 14 OLED with the following specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285H

  • RAM: 32GB

  • Storage: 1TB SSD

  • Display: 3K non-touch
  • Price: 1540 Eur.

I'll be starting IT studies this fall, and while my current laptop (Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD — battery is failing but replaceable) might still get the job done, I’m not fully confident it will handle everything smoothly. That said, I will have access to university PCs for some of the more demanding tasks, so I might be able to wait another year before upgrading.

I'm looking for a device that’s:

  • Lightweight and portable for lectures

  • Capable of handling programming, coursework, and light multitasking

  • Reliable enough to last me around 5–6 years or more if possible.
Here are a few questions I have:

  1. Would you recommend the Zenbook 14 OLED for this kind of use?

  2. How is the battery life, display quality, and fan noise on the Zenbook 14 with the Ultra 9 processor?

  3. There’s a €200 difference between the Core Ultra 9 185H and 285H models. Aside from the processor and WiFi chip, are there any significant differences? Is the 285H worth the extra cost long-term?

  4. Would it make more sense to go with a Core Ultra 7 model instead?
Since I’ll mostly be using Visual Studio and other Windows-only tools, I’ll need a Windows laptop.

I’m also open to suggestions from other brands if there are better options around the same price/performance level.
