I have a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series 5767. Only powers up for about 5 seconds then shuts down. At first, I thought it was the motherboard but was not 100% sure. First thing I did was to buy a new charger. I left the charger on overnight and was able to power up and use the laptop. I now get a message that the charger is not recognized and that it is not charging. After about ten minutes the laptop shuts down. If I put the charger on and leave it overnight it will power up and run for ten minutes then shut down again. What could be wrong? My laptop is only about a year and a half old.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the laptop forums site

It sounds like an over heating problem, see if there's fluff blocking the vents.

Before it closes down is every thing working normally

The only thing it does is the power light on the start button will light up and the fan comes on for about 10 seconds then the laptop shuts down

See if you can look at the bios, You can access the Dell Inspiron's BIOS utility by pressing the "F2" key on the laptop keyboard as soon as the laptop starts up and displays the Dell logo.

If it will let you in does it stay on in the bios settings.
