Noisy Fan Aspire One

    I have a noisy fan on a relatively new Aspire with a 8 Gig flash drive
    After a minute or so the fan begins to rumble as it kicks in
    The laptop is running Xbuntu linux
    I have read a number of possible fixes

    1) the software patch. My concern is if I slow down the fan of overheating
    2) thermal paste. One person said by replacing the thermal paste this solved their problem
    3) update the bios . The current bios is .3109

    any help and recommendations would be much appreciated
