Hey guys ! :) Been at the boards since the beginning, just never bothered to register. Owell.. my AAO died today aswell.
Just for comparison, I'm running windows 7, 1.5gb ram and no other mods.. It was working fine.. then it suddently died and wont even blink a led anymore.
Any ideas, suggestions etc would be highly appriciated.

Not even for a very brief period of time? Most common problem is a scrambled bios where the light comes on but no further action. If that is what is happening then the bios recovery, mentioned above, works quite well.

The only other thing I can suggest is to take the battery off, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, hook up the battery and AC back up and try starting it again.

I was already aware of the bios emergency reflashing but that's unfortunately no use in our case. Basically the aao is dead and grounded, it wont power on any components whatsoever.

What i was doing was : i was about to reflash my bios.. I dloaded the new bios to my pc, put it on the thumbdrive and then inserted the thumb to my aao whilst in windows. Then i went to check a website and then i just heard the hdd snap off.. After that i havent been able to summon any signs of life from my baby. Which OS are you running neptun22 ?

    Hi.

Yeah, the acer is back again. I did this:
"The only other thing I can suggest is to take the battery off, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, hook up the battery and AC back up and try starting it again" and the acer starts :D

can my acer die again? maybe i must do something with my acer? Update BIOS?

Please do a Bios reflash to 3309 and verify that the bios shows changed to 3309.

Other then that, you have a hardware issue.

Thanks so much for the advice posted on this thread. My acer suddenly decided to kill itself yesterday and I was completely stumped for what to do, thought I'd have to send it off or something. I tried the BIOS flash and magically it's a happy bunny again.

    Thanks again guys.

Thanks for this thread mine is working again :) - it died plugging in a USB DVD drive but the remove battery and hold power button for 30 seconds worked a trick - wonder if its some overload protection that requires that action to unlock itself :?:

No, what’s happened is something as simple as a stray electron may have left a component in a unusable state it could be some simple as a dive being in high or low configuration when it should be a another.

What you have done by removing the battery, you have remove the emf source, then by operating the power switch you have forced the residual charge to be used up to power the device.
