I just bought my aspire one and whenever i try to sign in to my hotmail account it says the following

Your MSN Messenger account **********@hotmail.com is error
Our Protocol is not supported by the server

This is when i try to sign in with the inbuilt application of messenger using linux.

The same account connects with the online messenger.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Tienes una opcion en la seccion de configuracion ... que te ofrece la posibilidad de hacer un upgrade a todos los programas del equipo...

Got two acer ones for my daughters for Christmas and can't connect to MSN due to protocol. Run live update and after an hour or two it cuts out the internet and so doesn't update. When you run it next time it does it all over again.
Beginning to p*** me off now. Why can't you select the updates you require.

I've managed to get one to work by re-installing the operating system from usb stick, then doing the updates. Takes about three hours to update. It said some updates failed but who cares I got MSN to work.
Starting to do the other one now.

I notice that the messenger works if you have a hotmail.com addresses but not if you have a hotmail.co.uk address.

I tried to install mercury messenger but it doesn't appear anywhere?

Both my acers wouldn't work with a .com or .co.uk address
These updates are taking longer thn I thought. Probably more like 4 to 5 hours.
I could have downloaded a windows disc and installed it by now!!!!
God knows why it's so slow to download updates unless their server is inundated.

Finally after leaving it to update overnight, some updates failing to install, updated again and when you have the communications suite update installed Messenger will work.
After 2 days I now have two happy kids.
