I just tried it (live usb) the interface is indeed pretty neat. wifi works (but with the alpha too). webcam too (cheese is pre-installed). the media manager detected images I had in an SD card.
I'll try later installing some application from rpm to see if that works, I read somewhere that it should be possible ...

Oh and very fast boot (live usb) faster than anything I tried so far...

This looks awesome! Seeing the AAO is one of the best selling netbooks, Intel (or moblin.org I should say) should make sure it is well supported! I would have loved to try it, but my power adapter has died recently..

    Here's a video intro:

    Hi all,

I've been keeping an eye on this distro as the potential permanent home for my AAO 110L. Any first impressions on comparing to the ease of use, speed, and compatibility compared to Ubuntu 9.04 or Mandriva 2009?

In particular, how is video performance on sites like YouTube, etc? That's my only current gripe with Jaunty.

Debating making the switch to test this week.

    Thanks!

I put it on download after seeing giz praising it this morning, guessing their site is getting hammered given the sloooooow speeds I'm getting!

I've just shifted to downloading it with wget, the server drops the connection after a while and firefox can't continue the download but wget seems to be doing ok (slow, but reconnecting fine).

    Thanks...Downloading the .IMG now.

I'm at the office so won't be able to try this out until this evening. Interested to see how others respond to this Beta.

    Installed it.

    - empathy (IM) does not has only gtalk and jabber availlable.
    - no preferences configuration for the browser
    - flash is not installed by default but it is availlable in the repo.
    - video player is slow (might need some tweaking in the corg.conf)
    - m_zone not configurable (might come in a later release)
    - zones is quite nice, reacts to alt+tab
    - imho pasteboard is not very usefu
    - no gui for power management

It is a beta so we can't expect that everything works perfectly but when it is complete it will be a great distro.
My feeling is that they built a base and now they are going to complete what is apparent. I can just imagine the huge work achieved to get all this developped with clutter.
I secretly hope that this interface will be able to run on fedora 11...

Seems alright-ish, not as quick as I expected it to be. The interface is gorgeous in places and slightly strange in others, it doesn't play nice with other installed OS's (I've just had a nice half an hour of fun editing the grub file to get my Ubuntu partition booting again, still got my Linpus and OS X ones to sort as well!).

In case anyone needs it for dropping into a grub.conf here's the options for it:

    title Moblin (2.6.29.3-13.1.moblin2-netbook)
    root (hd0,10)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.29.3-13.1.moblin2-netbook ro root=/dev/sda11 quiet vga=current

Where hd0,10 is whatever partition you've got it on. The bootloader problems are probably of my own doing.

I also had issues getting through to the repository for some reason, my connection was active but the repo kept failing to respond. Might just their server getting hammered though, so I'll leave that open.

In addition to the problems posted above:

    - Browser doesn't save sessions (cookies are lost between tabs and when you close the browser)
    - Media player failed to detect music I put in the music folder, and failed to launch when I tried to play said music
    - Downloading from the browser seems a bit messed up

This is indeed something to keep an eye on, nonetheless. I've been keeping a similarly close eye on Jolicloud, and until there is a release I'm pretty fine with Moblin.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I just downloaded a (newer?) copy of the image, with a slightly bigger footprint and a different MD5 hash from the one I downloaded/installed this morning, maybe some fixes were applied.
    EDIT2: No fixes ;(

I understand the boottime is about 20 seconds when booting from a USB stick. What's it like from the SSD?
