Entire lid and LCD has been broken off so I'd like to use it with an external display but it won't boot, just power on lite, no HDD spin up. Tried fn-F5 to switch to external but no go.

Any ideas? Possible to bypass lcd detection?

Maybe I could hook up a dead screen? or disconnect connector from M/B?

I think you should check inside the bit(s) that are left... if it isn't beeping then it isn't posting... and if it doesn't post it will not get as far as an operating system and if no operating system... then Fn+F5 will not work...

Look to see if the Memory is seated correctly - has anything else been knocked out of position - like if the Display was 'ripped off' in a fall, it is possible that if you have a non soldered CPU it managed to displace its cooler and is no longer seated correctly..
