My ZG5 needed a re-install after trying and failing to install Ubuntu.

The re-install worked except that the "Turn Off" option from the menu doesn't work. The re-start does. Also, there is an issue about permissions to write to the memory - says I lack permission.

I note Acer seem to have abandoned Linpus and will no longer offer support. Perhaps the best advice is "to leave well alone"

    Really

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/no ... e_110.html

What are you trying to reinstall.

    Get your recovery disk
Format a USB stick (this is important - any other files on the stick could cause a fail install)
Boot from the CD and make a bootable USB
    Reinstall Linpus

    Try downloading

Sorry, the reboot has already been done and it is after the reboot that the turn off stopped working. Several other things also gave problems but I have managed to sort these out.

The Apire One is really neat but is ruined for none Linux experts by a lack of support.

A PS ro the last reply as a warning to others.

Ubuntu won't load with some of the Atom chips: there are two sorts. It will run fine from a stick - with all the known problems but will not install.

I never thought the day would come but I can answer my own question.

The failed attempt to load Ubuntu put some hidden files on the extended memory card. These cause various problems including the none turn off. Formatted the card in a PC and now all is back to original working.
