Performance wise (including battery life), is laptop better than notebook? How different is laptop from notebook. Is it just about the site? What is the standard size of notebook and netbook?

I'm thinking you might have meant to ask about a netbook rather than a notebook? Or no? Usually the term laptop and notebook have been interchangeable for many years, but the introduction of the netbook has caused a slight confusion or misnomer to take place.

For the most part, your laptops are still going to give you the most performance and usefulness of mobile devices, unless your primary need is space conservation and portability. In those two categories, your netbooks and tablets or phones will be more convenient.

While most of the netbooks had less power than they should have, there were only 1 or 2 in the industry that came near the power of laptops or could do what they do...but you often had to overclock them with setFSB and other tools to get that performance, and the life (or at least the thermal compound if used) didn't last as long the more you did and the hotter it ran. The netbooks were and are still more powerful than most of your tablets and cell phones, though.

There is something called the Ultrabook which some companies have, too. It's kind of a midway point between a laptop and a netbook. Most of them have laptop power or near to it, but have gotten rid of some components you may still want or need, like a cd/dvd writer, or the ability to change out the hard drive (since many of them have upgraded the systems from magnetic drives to solid state/SSDs, but didn't give the user many options to upgrade them if at all when tryring to get into the case). Some Ultrabook models from select manufacturers are still very good on their compatability and accessibility, but some are not. You'd have to research these to know which are which before you buy one.

The standard size for most laptops can be seen and measured from the screen. The depth variation isn't that much, but the screen size is usually 15.6 inches. It can be as large as 17 or 19 though, so if you're looking for a carrying case that fits your laptop, that is usually the most important factor to look for since nearly all of them are thick enough to store a laptop in but are not always large enough from edge-to-edge.

Like what @IBMPC8088 said, I also think that laptop and notebook are almost the same except for the size. But the netbook is a different animal. By the name netbook, it is designed for the internet so the memory is smaller and the processor is slower, that was according to the vendor that sold the 3 netbooks to my sister.
