Currently a college student looking for the best laptop I can get. I will be buying this here in the United States. Here are the specifications

    1) What is your budget?
    1000-1300 USD

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    a. Like: Lenovo, Sony and possibly Dell if the product is reliable and fits my description
    b. Dislike: HP

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
    I prefer new

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Programming in .NET, Powershell and IDLE (Python) at the academic (College) level

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    Both

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
    No

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
    ~7-9

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
    Yes

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
    Windows 7, anticipating Windows 9

    Screen Specifics

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer?
A Dimension suitable for coding. The only videos I'll be watching are tutorials and educational materials on YouTube, KhanAcademy, etc

    13) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen?
    Matte

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
    No

    15) When are you buying this laptop?
    ASAP

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
    2-3 years if not longer

    Notebook Components

    17) How much hard drive space do you need? Do you want a SSD drive?
SSD Is preferred, so 128-256GB is suitable

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?
it is not necessary, would rather use that bay for a secondary Hard Drive

I'm Currently looking at the Lenovo T440p or the L/T540 Customized with these specifications:

    Windows 8.1
    I7-4700MQ or i5-4330
    8GB PC3-12800 DDR3L (2 DIMM)
128 GB Solid State Drive, Serial ATA3

Everything Else is is standard with no customizations

    Total Price is $1286

Based on what I'm using it for is i7 overkill?
