Do you know where to look? The network manager icon should be toward the right side of the top menu. It looks like a T.

If it shows no networks and you know that some exist in your neighborhood, open a terminal window. Run the command "lspci," copy the results, and paste it here.

It's possible, however unlikely, that your wi-fi chipset isn't supported by the standard setup.

You also could try connecting directly to your router with an ethernet cable, then running system -> administration -> update manager to make sure you have the latest versions of all the software.

in the terminal also type "iwconfig", if you get information about a certain "eth1" or "wlan0" or "wifi0" most likely you are in a good place*, because these are the normal ways of labelling your wireless interface. If not, there is no active module for your wireless, in which case, you have extra work to do.

    Welcome to linux.

PS: as many of us, I'm another ex-Windows user. I abandoned it 2 years ago and I can't even imagine me working with it again.
