I just picked up my Sapphire Blue 120G XP at Microcenter in Illinois.

This thing rocks! The best netbook value IMHO. I was wondering what were the first tweaks or programs you guys downloaded for your new toy. I will be grabbing Firefox and iTunes. Any other cool free apps I should pick up?

Can someone mention what stuff I need to get rid of on the computer to save some space? Any other tips on what to do to maximize its performance??

    Thanks,
    G

    Software tips:
-Evernote - best note taking app --free
    -VLC

    Remove:
-DVD App in there, it does not have a dvd drive so you dont need that

    Hardware:
-1 gb ram to make that 1.5gb
    -a 7200rpm HD
thats pretty much what you can just really add to boost performance for the A-one
unless you are good in hardware hacking then you might be able to replace that HD with an SSD..

    take iTunes out!!!!

winamp has a plugin included that can be used to update ipods. now there is no excuse for itunes! unless of course you have a mac.

but last time i checked the AA1 wasn't a mac

Thanks for the tips guys. The one I have came with 1.0 G, can I put more Ram in it? I asked the people in MicroCenter and they said it was maxed out at 1.0 G Ram. Does an extra 512 really matter if I am using it for basic use (internet, music, word).

    Thanks,
    GD

The store is wrong, for a One 1.5gig is maxed out.

.5 gb is hard wired, you will need to remove the .5gig in the socket, and replace it with a 1gb stick.
Does it matter, well not really if you are staying with Linux.
XP or vista will usually benefit from more memory, but both will run with one gig.

That Evernote program looks interesting. Thanks for that tip al.

Does anyone else know a good (preferably free) program for taking notes in School?

    Thanks,
    G

In the Linux arena, most software is free.

I use OpenOffice.org writer, which comes with the Linux version of the AA1. Writer is part of the OpenOffice suite that does everything Microsoft Office does, but for free and (I believe) open source.
