Could someone kindly tell me what kind of flash memory card would fit completely inside the right slot? I was disappointed to discover that normal SD cards stick out. Thanks, JOJ

None. They'll all stick out on the right side slot.

There's a "halfsize" SD card availiable that fits inside the right socket. These half card comes with a integrated foldable usb port. All you need is to break this usb plug and it'll fit.

Thanks a lot - great idea! But, if one breaks off the USB plug it won't damage any circuitry? JOJ

I have a memory stick micro (also called an M2) card for my mobile, and it came with an adapter that actually recesses to about 3mm within the right hand side slot. I believe the adaptor is imitating an memory stick pro duo, but as I've long thrown the packaging away, I can't be sure. The last 2 symbols on my rhs slot - the stylised M with lines below, and the pro - relate to this card. It may also be that the adapter is shorter than whatever it is imitating. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_Stick

Noticeably pricier than equivalent SDHC cards, by the way.

As long as you only break of the usb plug and do not short it out, then the sd card will be fine. If you're really going with this method, consider getting some electrician tape and "metal saw" with really tiny teeth.

May I ask why can't you just use the sd card reader on the left side of the acer aspire one with a normal SD card?

I would take another look at the picture. It looks to me as if the actual storage card is on the bit that is hinged up. If you look at the left hand image it shows a small black square which is, I think, the actual micro-sd card. So sawing off the USB part will stop that bit sticking out, but this won't help as you will have to leave the bit with the micro-sd card intact.

Thanks for that idea. Didn't know they exist. What you have in your picture is MMC but I guess that will work just the same as SD

The left-side reader extends "Mydisk" rather than becoming another drive. I want to use the right-side slot to keep a syncronized copy of My Docs or maybe even the entire home folder. Set it and forget it! JOJ

I got one of the half size MMC cards - called a MMC mobile card and it does the job perfectly. In fact I can't get it out without using the adaptor that makes it full size! 2 meg was the biggest size I saw but enough for document backups. J
