I just got the 16gb ssd aspireone with XP and it seems slow to me.
Is the one with the regular hard drive faster or is it just xp is slow on these machines.

    thanks

Most of the slowdowns, freezes, pauses and slow application launches are due to the SSD. The write performance is so horrible that every time the drive has to write something to disk the whole system freezes for seconds at a time.

Have you tried http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~hkim362/proje ... point.html ? It made all the difference in the world on my system. Also try using FAT32 and switch to TinyXP, PerformanceXP or one of the special XP versions tuned for the AAO.

My Aspire One had the 8gb SSD Win XP, and was doggie slow. From reading in this message board I found out the Intel SSD read speed is ok, but the write function is very slow at only 10 meg or so. Using the help I got in here I changed to a 1.8 HDD 40gb Samsung and very happy with this mini computer now. Even though my Samsung and most of the 1.8 HDD out there are only 4200 rpm, it was a nice improvement over the SSD. If you can exchange your Acer SSD for one with a hard drive you will be happier, if not, consider replacing the drive.

    THANKS
I think I will try to return this to were I got it, they really shouldn't sell this thing with windows on the ssd, its wrong.
    its waaaaaaaaay to slow .
Any computer with a 1 gb ram and a 1.6 processor should be able to fly web surfing.
    This ssd is going back.

    thanks

So Flashpoint didn't work for you? It has worked great for many users, at least those with the 8GB SSD.

    Sorry what is flashpoint??
I don't really want to get into tweeking this to far if I don't have to.
I just don't think and computer with this specs should be as slow as theses seems.
(you know murphy's law as I read and write on the boards it seems to be doing better)...:):)

what is flashpoint and what does it do?

    thanks

Flashpoint is a program. It takes 30 seconds to install and it *improves* your SSD performance by a lot.

Problem with OEM is that they install alot of crap with the OS.... The SSD can run XP very well.... But of course it requires a few things to do, not really that hard. I think you should try it before returning. Been using mine since last year, and it's almost as fast as the HD model.

    Most important things:

Check that Windows is on FAT32 filesystem
    Disable Virtual Memory
    Turn off System Restore
    Disable Disk Indexing
    Install Flashpoint - (http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~hkim362/proje ... point.html)

Uninstall programs that ACER included.... the antivirus is almost always the culprit for the SSD slowdown in our Aspire One. Download AVIRA at www.free-av.com .

Try those, if you still think its too slow. Return it and get a HD version.

    62MB/sec, read and write.

I have a eeepc with SSD, it it seems more than 10 times as slow. Acer's hard drive is the fastest on any computer I ever seen. The Intel chipset may use some power, but its fast.

    OK
    So uninstall mcafee antivirus software?
    how good is http://www.free-av.com

so how do I check to see if it's on FAT32?
If not how do I change it. were is this setting?
Disable Virtual Memory, were is this setting?
Turn off System Restore were is this setting?
Disable Disk Indexing were is this setting?

what do you loose by shutting this stuff off??
    Does it make it unstable?
Do these settings make IE run faster (web browsing)? thats were the hang up really is.

Plus if I can get the HD version and not have to mess with it whats the point of the SSD version?
Just seems silly to me to have to tweek the crap out of a new computer to get it to work right.
But I'm guessing the place I bought this isn't going to let me return it for a HD.
SO I guess I will have to make do.
thanks in advance so much for the help.

well guys got my HD version.
I have not done any of the tweeks and its alot faster.
It doesn't seem to hanging like the ssd model.
would any of these tweeks help my new HD model to
make it even faster or are these more for the ssd model?

    Disable Virtual Memory
    Turn off System Restore
    Disable Disk Indexing

    On a side note
When I got my HD version it came with a little mouse.
Maybe I didn't see it when I got the other but it works pretty cool..

    thanks

Disable Indexing will speed XP up a bit. Same with System Restore, but if you often do alot of changes to XP, leave it on. Leave Virtual Memory ON as well.

use eboostr and fast sd card as cache. It'll significantly improve the responsiveness of your AAO. It's like having both SSD and HDD, except it's much better than both combined together.
