In Need of a complete idiot guide to VPN (linux)

I shouldn't do this when the cat wakes me at 5:00 AM. I forgot to do depmod -a and just copied it into the proper directory. Of course, modprobe got me a Fatal error, so I rebooted.

And then, once again, forgot to do depmod -a and got the fatal error again.

Sigh, old age or lack of sleep?

Anyway, to the OP (original poster) you owe devlin a drink.

Download his tarball

Follow his instructions, including the depmod -a part.

You should then have the tun.ko module.
After that, it should work. I just tested it and it works well for me.

 

Thanks guys. I'll be back at school on Sunday so I'll try it then. Hopefully it works. I'm getting to close to finals time at law school, so experimenting with new kernels or distros is not something i want to tackle right now since I'm still not very confident with linux.

 

With devlin's package, you shouldn't have to.
Actually, I think that 2.6.26 kernel I have is from something else on the USB stick, so probably wasn't relevant to anything.

I tried it and it worked perfectly.

 

Edit: I'm an idiot. I put the # in before the sudo.

It think it works! I got through with no problems at home, so we'll give it a try on Monday when I'm there. Cheers to Devlin!

 

Heh, we've all done things like that, especially late at night or early in the morning, copied a whole line including the $ or # prompt and then wondered why it didn't work.
