    Hi,
i have a "Aspire One A110L" and I don't like the modified "Linpus Lite" distro from Acer.
I have problems to install applications or the application don't run very well.
In epsxe there is no text in the main-window, yum get conflicts, when I like to install
    Evince, F-Spot, etc.
And dependencies couldn't be find by yum, these applications are Virtual-Box, Skype, Zattoo, etc.
Also the default-gui sucks. I could load the default Xfce-WM, but when I place the panel on the top,
the panel is three times as large.
Also there are some applications, like man, locate, which are installed on default in other distros, but on the modified distro it's missing.
I have to say, that the distro has some good sides, its boots very fast (7-9 secs), its fast, and all hardwares works, that I tested.

So I'd like another distro that works perfect or nearly perfect on the AAO. On my PC "Ubuntu 8.10" is installed, and i tested and have some knownledge about other distros like openSUSE, Archlinux, Fedora, Debian, etc.
Linux was the reason, why i bought the AAO, I didn't wanted to pay for Windows.

I saw that "Ubuntu eee" should work, but I don't like to install every two days an another distro, to look if it is good enough for me.
I need a distro with a useable package-manager with a good collection of packages. The hardware should mostly works, a lightweight WM would be great,
and the boot should not be very long. (Ubuntu 8.10 took more than a minute, its to long, ca. 40 seconds is ok)

I hope there exists a distro with my expectations, and if you use a good distro please tell me.

    Thank you and merry christmas.

I would recommend F10. Everything works out of the box besides the wifi button which is easily fixable with madwifi. The installation went flawless...

I would also recommend F10, but I wouldn't go so far as to say everything works out of the box. The A110L has the SSD, so you'll probably want to make a few adjustments to keep your system from slowing down. You'll want to change the filesystem from ext3 to ext2 (F10 by default gives you ext3 even when you specify ext2 during installation, so you'll have to change it after the fact). You should also make some changes to Firefox and /etc/fstab to cut down the SSD write cycles. Plenty of info in the Fedora forum here. If you use the F10 XFCE spin, there are some audio issues. Most if not all of the Fn buttons work, but their onscreen display doesn't.

By the way, if you don't like Fedora, Ubuntu and Mandriva also work pretty well. There is also an Ubuntu netbook remix you can try and a project in development called Kuki Linux, which is based on Ubuntu and customized for the AAOne. I haven't tried Mandriva on mine, but those who have recommend the Gnome version rather than KDE.

I have just installed Linux Mint 6, you have to tweak a little to get the wifi working but it is very easy and quick to do. Instructions in this thread :

http://linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=18676&p=113868&hilit=aspire+one#p113868 (post by thorhr worked for me)

Have only had it installed for 2 days but everything seems to work, I have the 120gb hd version but since Mint is based on Ubuntu I should think all the info here will work :

So far so good, I like it :D

I have historically used Ubuntu or a derivative (most commonly Mint, which I still haven't gotten to find wifi on my AAO). After trying many distros on my AAO, I am most impressed by eeebuntu. It's fast, works almost perfectly out of the box, and the netbook remix is very well designed. I highly recommend it.
