Is it just me? I really hate for someone else to use my laptop. I literally can't stand it! Am I too attached to it or is it normal behavior. I was just wondering...

Just like the mobile phone and other related devices, a laptop is an item close to one's personality and might contain sensitive files which can be accidentally deleted. There is the lingering functional risk of letting someone access your laptop and access your files. It can even get damaged if it slips which is not a worst case scenario. I am not averse to give out my devices but only to trusted persons. I have had a few sob stories in the past when my gadget disappeared without trace resulting in unnecessary litigation.

I am not that too touchy although I also want a little privacy with my laptop. But when someone needed to do something for borrowing my laptop (an example is writing a short official letter in the office) I oblige. But lending the laptop is not a good practice because the laptop is something personal and what would happen if something goes wrong? I cannot imagine if someone would use my laptop and the hard disk would break or the OS would be corrupted.

We have wi fi running through the house and I have set up a Chromebox at the kitchen desk area. it is really handy, and if anyone needs to look up anything, they can use the Chromebox, not my laptop. That way my laptop does is not being loaned out all the time. It has important work on it.

It's happens to me a lot of times, mostly when my little cousins come to my house and start asking me for it. I always tend to hide it away from their sight so they won't annoy me with that, indeed.

It is not just you, I can't stand it either. Actually it isn't limited to just notebooks, pretty much any of my computing devices I don't care people messing with. Though having wee ones in the house results makes things interesting on that score.

I have had to share my laptop when my mom's laptop broke and I hate it. She won't buy a new one because she likes using mine. Sh's taken it over and shoved all my files in the corner while her files litter my desktop. It's really annoying to share you computer, so I get it. There is also the fact that no one is going treat your things as nicely as you do, my mom has dropped my computer three times and has never apologized. I'm currently saving up for a new one and I'll just give her my old one.

I don't hate it but I know where you are coming from I get a little aggravated when my husband uses my laptop because his is dead because, its usually when I am in the middle of something plus however its not like I have anything to important on there sometimes I have gift ideas and things for him so that can be irritating!

Imagine if someone borrowed your laptop, spent the day looking at porn or whatever on it, picked up a particularly virulent virus or trojan and then returned it to you with a cleared history. It might be days or weeks before you start to notice that something is wrong and by that time, actual damage could be done to the hard drive. I prefer to have the person use my laptop where I can keep an eye on things while still giving that person some privacy to do whatever they need to do.

A laptop is a personal thing, a personal device, of course we all feel bad when somebody else tries to use it, the same thing happens to me, also with my desktop computer it just doesn't feel right when somebody else uses it even if they have a different login account.

I know the feeling, but I don't hate it as much. I don't feel easy or comfortable when someone uses my laptop. Thankfully, many visitors bring their own, and use their own most of the time :) A laptop, and a cellphone I consider them personal property, and no one should touch it :)

I hate anyone that touches my laptop as well, not only does it contain personal information that I wouldn't like people to get into but a lot of my friends are really clumsy and messy. Their phones and computers are always full of dust or dirty while I try to keep my devices clean everytime. I'm a posessive person though, maybe that influences things a bit.

I feel the same as most of you that a laptop is very important and should be for just one person. The amount of personal things you have on a laptop, the way you set your laptop to be as you'd like it to be and safety, well it's just better if your computer is only for your use. I agree that a computer is best as a one owner machine.

No, it doesn't really bother me, the only ones that touch my laptop are my roomate who is usually fixing something, or my friend, who just likes to check his email on it. It is not a big problem. Now if a stranger were to touch my laptop, I might be slightly perturbed.

I agree, even though some people will say that this isn't a real problem that you should be getting upset about, it's still my property and I don't want people touching it. I had people in the same house as me just messing with my laptop because they thought I was comfortable with it. Never asked, just assumed.
