I have found two disassembly videos that seem to be for your laptop

Looking at the video it seems that it has a standard 2.5” hard drive
connector, and room for a larger capacity hard drive to be fitted.

The ram replacement however is an extensive process, and should only be
    attempted by someone with experience.

Opening up the laptop may invalidate your warranty.

Reading what @somethingback said and watching the videos, I personally would take the laptop back or upgrade to another one with a bigger RAM or tell your son to not download anything, lol. But if you know what you are doing then don't mind my post :)
