What should I do to recognize a 16GB SDHC on my old trusty A110?

I replaced the old slow as molasses 8GB SSD with a Transcend 300x 4GB SLC CF using a ZIF to CF converter and it works great (57MB/s read 40 MB/s writes). Running Lubuntu 12.04 on it.

Now I want to use a SDHC card as additional storage but am running into problem of computer simply not recognizing the card.

It is a Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC. It is recognized by a six year old Dell Inspiron Laptop and also a newer e-book reader but not recognized by Acer Aspire A110 nor the card reader in a four year old desktop.

From all I have read all 16GB SDHC should be compatible with A110.

    Any tips?
