For those who like to create global keyboard shortcuts, here's how to do it:

Access the Keyboard Preferences app that's under the Advanced Menu->Settings->Keyboard Preferences.

    Click on the "Shortcuts" tab.

After pressing "Add" and clicking on the icon next to the "Command" box, scroll through and find the app you want a shortcut for, and then assign it a key (like Crtl+Alt+W to invoke the Writer app), and presto! It works.

I struggled on how to do this, so I thought I would share the method for other lost souls. :ugeek:

    Thanks for sharing! :)

I've made a Firefox for Ctrl+Ins, but I would like to make another 2 for Ctrl+PrtSc (to launch the Acer Mail) and Ctrl+Pause (for Acer IM), but I dont know how to do it, because I dont know what to choose from the list.. :(

    Could you help me out?

I'm confused. If you succeeded in creating a shortcut for Firefox, then why don't you repeat the same steps for the other 2 shortcuts you want to create?

Just follow the same instructions I gave above and it should work.

    Good luck,

Well, Im just having trouble finding the name of the applications, thats it.

I know Firefox is Firefox, but I cant find the name of the Acer Mail and IM. That's why I was asking you. Thanks anyway. :)

One way to find the app name, look at group-app.xml. Searching through you'll find these lines:

    <app sequence="3" acs="email">/usr/share/applications/AME.desktop</app>
    <app sequence="2" acs="im">/usr/share/applications/acerim.desktop</app>

So my guess is that the app names are AME (for email) and ACERIM for the IM program. Maybe Pidgin.

I'm sure because I uninstalled those apps.

    Good luck,

Thank you very much Francis. Your tips did help me a lot.
I'm still learning the quirks from Linux and Linpus sure has some.

I hope more people find this great post, because, like me, many will miss some media buttons that laptops have.

By the way, I wish you good luck for your work and I wonder how the One has been helping you.
I live in Portugal, and in the next two years I will take a trip around all the European countries (all of them) and I would love to hear the opinion from a true professional as yourself.

    Best regards,
    Deoki (Jota).

Thanks very much for this tip! I have been looking at the kb shortcuts and was stumped by the fact that I couldn't change any settings in the default. I followed your tip and everything works great! :D
