I want to do what this person did, because it supposedly makes your netbook cooler. Is that true, and how would I go about making this happen? I'm computer illiterate, so I wouldn't know where to begin.

The option would need to appear in the Bios set up screen. But there is no fan options in the AAO v3309 bios.

The only option to do that on the AAO A110/150 series (ZG5 models), is to either use a1ctl (windows), or acerhdf kernelmodule under Linux (do not use the acer fan perl scripts, since there can be race conditions rendering the fan inoperable, when it really should run).
Google should provide link to both, as well as documentation on how to install them.

Either live with it, or hope that either Acer makes a bios for the AAO D150 where fan settings can be controlled, or someone rewrites a1ctl to support the AAO D150 hardware. The sourcecode for a1ctl has been released by the author.
