I took mine apart to upgrade the memory and noticed how basic and simple the hinge design is (a good thing). Some time after reassembling everything, it struck me that I had no idea how the lid switch mechanism works. I didn't see a button or switch. Is there a magnetic relay switch somewhere?

Today, before closing back the case of my AA1 (XP,120GB) i found the lid switch:
It is one magnetic sensor, in front side, extreme left side (near to Storage Expansion slot).
The sensor mark on motherboard PCB is "MR1".
You can check the sensor using one magnet in this area.
The magnet from LCD panel is quite strong (close to "acer" mark of display).

I found it in a funny way.

My girlfriend has the exact same acer one as i have, and when i at some point put one of them on top of the other in closed position, the screen of the top acer blacked out.

Took me a minute to find out why!
