how do i get new programs on my desktop?

    After installing a program how do i get it to show on the desktop? I just installed Transmission but I cant find it anywhere!

    Also go to http://www.theregister.co.uk and do a search for acer aspire one - they have done 2 great articles on how to tweak stuff and change the desktop, including how to get new programs on the menus.
