help with seagate freeagent external hd

    I had heard there were issues using this HD with linux. It seems my One doesn't know ntfs. Does this mean I have to reformat the drive to fat32 or is this the issue with the particular HD?

    From what I remember, the problem was something to do with the drive going into a power-saving mode. Either it never went to sleep or it couldn't be woken up again. I'm not too sure as I don't own one.

    Typing 'dmesg' in a terminal window should give you an idea of whether the system can actually 'see' the drive. If so, then reformatting to fat32 or ext2 should enable it to be used within the limits of the sleep problem mentioned.
