I have a Swedish Acer One with a Swedish keyboard layout. I tried to change the language to Swedish in the "SCIM setup" but it won't help. I still have a messed up layout and the "EN" icon won't change.

Edit: I can't even type a "forward slash" so I can't edit certain files in the Terminal that, supposedly, needs to be edited.

    alt+f2

type the following and hit run:

    setxkbmap se

This is a temporary fix. You have to type the command every time you boot up.

A more permanent fix is to edit the file "/usr/bin/xkb_plugin_set_xorg.sh" and modify the last "XkbLayout" entry in this file from "gb,us" to "se,gb,us".

This problem has already been discussed in detail in the Software Linux forum.

No, the right way is to do the following:

    1. Press Alt+F2 to get up "Run program".

    2. Write setxkbmap se and press enter to get your keyboard set in Swedish, temporary.

    3. Press Alt+F2 to get up "Run program".

    4. Write terminal and press enter.

    5. In the terminal window write: echo "setxkbmap se" >> .bash_profile and press enter.

    6. Restart the computer.

    7. In the menu bar, in the lower part of the screen, you should now see a icon for Swedish.

Note: setxkbmap se and echo "setxkbmap se" >> .bash_profile is for Swedish only. For other languages change se to your native country.

    Thank You @Beldar.
    That works!

I bought my One about 8 hours ago and I was trying to change the keyboard layout as Finnish..

Now it works and there is a nice 'flag of Finland-icon' in the 'icon area' ! :)

Any idea what to substitute for 'se' to get Bulgarian, (assuming it's even supported) ?

    Thanks

    Hi,
I did the process for French and I get the FR indication in the menu bar and the keyboard is OK but:
the menus are still in English after reboot (connect, work, fun and files :) :)

Just wanted to thank you guys :)

This thread allowed me to install Faroese keyboard layout, which I otherwise couldn't find anywhere.

    Good stuff :)
