    Hi I'm trying to create a test environment for application development on aa1. I want to use a vmware image for easy restore etc. I've been trying to create an image using the rescue CD, but so far I've been unsuccessful. Here's what I've done so far;
    1/ Created linux flavoured vmware image, with IDE disk, USB, no floppy etc
    2/ Boot it with the rescue CD, select install, proceeds through copying etc
    3/ reboot into it - just get black screen
    4/ I read somewhere that Linpus have 'silenced' the grub screen, so boot from Fedora 8 rescue CD
    5/ mount Linpus install disk and chroot /mnt/sysimage
    6/ install grub rpm + grub-install /dev/sda
    7/ remove unused /etc/grub.conf and make link to /boot/grub/grub.conf
    8/ edit /boot/grub/grub.conf - remove vga + silent options
    9/ exit and reboot.
    10/ can now see grub menu and boot process
    11/ get almost as far as mounting root then nash segfaults
    12/ try building a new initrd on Linpus 9.5 system and copy over
    13/ now boot with new initrd - no segfault, but can't mount root

    Any ideas where I can look next?

    TIA, Andrew

    Hi andrewbird,

    did you manage to create a vmware image with the link of rbil, or are you still stuggeling?
    I didn't come as far as you did and I also would appriciate an image for testing in a virtual machine.
