I love my 751 sofar, but noticed something strange with the hard drive when running HDTune.

The hard drive seems to be capped at 45 MB/sec. Normally the average transfer rate of this drive is 52MB/sec.

    In 751

    Is this on all 751s?
Does anyone know why or an solution?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure but It could be because of the chipset. It only has pata and the hard drive is sata,so maybe the pata to sata converter is the culprit? :|

Hmm interesting. But even PATA can do much more than 45MB/sec...

yea maybe a fault or limitation in the controller? You could try to remove the pata to sata converter and try a pata hard drive on it?

Actually you may be onto something: Dell Mini 10 and MSI U115 also use the same chipset: Intel US15W Poulsbo. They both suffers from slow hard drive performance. Notebookjournal measured 39MB/sec sequential read for both. So maybe this limitation is a limitation of the US15W chipset.

PS. I tried reinstalling SATA drivers and controllers, no result.

wow that would really suck...only 40MB/s max  so only an ssd would improve performance with their access times :(

I got this results with Windows7 and the Acer Chipset Driver, but did a Bios Update from Acer Homepage.

Used the Stardart option (64K Blocks) for this test, with bigger blocks i get better results. Did you notice that all three screenshots refer to a different drive? Look at the last letters in the Name.

You got a fast one ;)

Seems that Acer is shipping different Models of the 160GB HDD. The Hitachi HTS543216L9SA00 looks like a bit slower, or could it be some configuration?

    Greetings,
    Felix
