If anyone knows an FTP client program for the Linpus Lite that comes with the Aspire One, please post it. I'm having a hard time trying to find one such application. I came across FIREFtp but it requires upgrading to FireFox 3.0, which I'm not too fond of.

    Thanks!

I did have FireFTP on FF2. It was better, IMO, than gFTP. You might have to look around to find an older version that will work with FF2, but it's out there.

    FileZilla

My favorite FTP cilent is FileZilla. You can find it in the package manager. (Though I see it is perhaps a bit of a tight fit on the One's small screen).

tried out gFTP. works fine, very quick. you can save your ftp sites with or without password as bookmark. very basic, but easy to use. that's all i need. thanks for the clue.

I've been using Filezilla to connect via SFTP, I'm expecienced problems with files bigger than 2GB. Any solutions for this?
I've tried GFTP, it has no problem with big files, I can connect via FTP only though... (SSH setting which supposed to be SFTP is giving me an error)
Any solution using Linpus Lite for SFTP client capable of handle bigger files than 2GB?

sorry to just jump on this thread, trying to use gFTP and every time I try to connect it freezes out on me after I've put in hostname, username and password - I haven't used ftp on linux before, but I know user details are correct from previous use under windows - any clues? is there something I'd normally need to change?

ETA: sorry if this is very dumb question, but after reading this thread, went through and found filezilla in package manager, but can't now find how to run it? I'm rather new to all this, so please excuse my ignoreance

I am not sure as I don't remember but I think Linpus uses Firefox. If so then the best FTP client I have found is the Firefox extension FireFTP. I used to use FileZilla but switched because FireFTP works smother without having to resend files. You can get FireFTP from....

I am using Swiftweasel 2.0.0.12 which is the same as Firefox 2.0.0.12 and my FireFTP version is 0.9.7.1 which you can get at.....

This is where they keep their older versions and there are many of them so even if the version I use is not for you one of them will be. Good luck.

brilliant thanks, after clicking through 6 or 7 I found a version that runs...

My problem is still that I can't seem to connect to my file server... is there some fundamental difference in doing this from Windows to Linux?
I have hosting5.123reg.co.uk as server, then my username as supplied by them and password, but it just keeps saying unable to connect.
    any clues people?
