I'm managed to get my front MIC working.. Not to sure how but it does :)

I've installed 2.6.30-2-generic kernel and changed a few settings in the audio preferences..

    Now it works :)

If there is anything specific you want me to post, please let me know :)

    Hey Tomt,

What are the settings that you changed? What is the os and the hardware you are using? I have an aspire one D250 and I would like to get the front mic to work. At the moment I can only use the mic when I plug it in the jack, the front mic is not working. I am using Ubuntu Netbook Remix Jaunty.

    Hi TomT,

Sorry to be a newb but how do I go about installing the new kernel? is it an apt-get thing? or do I have to use the command line, I don't mind doing either.

    Thanks

    Hey tomT ,

I went here and downloaded this http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/ma ... 4_i386.deb and installed it. Everything was fine but the front mic was still not working.. not too sure what i did wrong. I did notice that there is an additional switch in the volume control where i could choose front mic or internal mic. Tried to record and it did not work on both front. I reverted back to the original kernel 2.6.28-11-generic.

The wired ethernet needed to be complied and I was not able to do that for the new kernel. I guess I have to carry around a mic if I want to use skype. I'll look on to see how I could solve this.

Must admit I didn't try the wired Ethernet as I only use wireless.
I set it to use the front mic, then went into preferences and selected capture / recording.

I got a new tab 'recording' that showed the front mic as muted. I un muted it and it works !!

    Thanks TomT,

I think I will hold off until the kernel leaves the release candidate stage.

    Cheers
