One of the frustrations of USB drives is the lack of performance benchmarks. To satisfy my own curiosity, I just did some 8gb flash memory benchmarks using aa1backup. These backups were back to back to back, always booting from the USB from a shutdown state. I was surprised by the results:

    Corsair Flash Voyager
    29 minutes, 8.96mb/sec

    Patriot Razzo
    14 minutes, 45 seconds, 17.96 mb/sec

Transcend SDHC class 6 through SanDisk MicroMate card reader
    18 minutes, 45 seconds, 14.04 mb/sec

I expected performance differences, but not such a wide spread. I also tried booting from the SD card in the multi-card reader slot; no go.

Note that these figures are for backup; it's quite possible that the figures would be very different for restore. Since I hope to do far more backups than restores, write speed is more important to me than read speed.

    Hi libssd,

Rather surprised by your benchmarks with regards to the 8 Gb Corsair Flash Voyager.
On my AA1 it takes approx 11 to 12 minutes for a backup or restore using aa1backup.
