    Hello,

My girlfriend has a Acer Aspire One (512MB, 8GB, Linpus Linux) and the fan runs constantly. From turning on the machine the fan runs and does not turn off what so ever. Is this normal? Do others have the same experience? The fan is noticeable audible not loud but you can hear it whirling away).

I have seen the scripts for adjusting the fan so that it turns off until a specified temp is reached, I am going to set this up for her soon. I just wanted to find out about the fan first.

So is this normal? Or does it sound like a defective machine?

    Thanks

No, you're not the first person with a noisy fan!
I use A1CTL on Windows XP.

    Thanks for the replies.

I see after a lot of searching that a number of people are encountering this issue. Am I correct in my understanding that the latest Bios update (also shipped with new devices) has the fan run constantly?

I shall use the Linux scripts to tame the fan.

Upgrading to either the 3308 or 3309 bios will tame the fan I heard, but I haven't noticed, I thought it sounded the same as before. Your best bet would be finding one of those scripts and you should be good.
