Im tryin to extract from a downloaded tar file to another file location. I keep getting permission denied msgs. How do I overcome this? Have searched the boards and googled but just can make sense of it all. I am new to Fedora.

Apart from that, the AA1 is a very cool piece of kit , be even better when i can get over this prob and get bluetooth working :D

Could this be a permissions thing or an unsupported rar thing?

For permissions, try opening the rar file in root.

To get rar support there should be a terminal command like "yum install rar" or something like that, but check around before trying.
