Are there any really good free antivirus malware software out there?
    I am just curious
This is my first laptop in a long time and I really want to protect it from everything I can.
This list was very helpful thank you.

Lots of great software recommended in this thread. For browser extensions, I'd recommend swapping out Adblock Plus for uBlock Origin. It's far less of a strain on your machine's resources. On top of that, I suggest everyone use a password manager like Last Pass, 1Password or Dashlane. These allow you to store all your passwords and usernames under one master key. I'm most familiar with Last Pass, which remembers your details and can be set to automatically log you in. It's compatible with a wide range of devices and can generate secure passwords.

Here's a little review of a handy program it's called “Windows I.S.O. Downloader”

This program allows you to download the latest I.s.o. Images for windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and
    the insider previews.

By downloading the latest I.s.o. Files you be able to achieve a fresh operating system install,
also with the latest files when you come to install them, you will be able to save time because you will have a later version that contains more up todate patches.

If you download this program called rufus then you can port the I.s.o files to a flash drive for
    installation.

I agree with the others that this thread is beneficial for computer users especially the line below...

"A good Antivirus program and a Anti-malware program for every day tasks. It's good practice to run these programs first after a clean install even before you connect to the internet."

You could have added a frequency of scanning the storage devices because I have noticed that users are not conscious of their anti-virus. All they know is that they have an anti-virus software installed and there's no need for a regular scan. That's also our habit - only to scan whenever we remember.

I just found another essential tool for your pc. It's RansomFree by Cybereason and elite Israeli military cyber Intelligence Corps, Unit 8200. It's totally free and protects your computer from Ransom Ware. It just came out last year end. PC Magazine tested it and reviewed it and it was positive reviews!
