I have been using this one:

    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/a ... .0.224.zip

no issues at all with wifi at any site (coffee shops, work, home). Give it a try and definitely look into the power-saving option in the Advanced tab of the Atheros in Device Manager Properties and move it from Maximum to Normal.

I had the same problem, i had already changed the power saving mode. so that's not it, but when i clicked repair on the wireless connection, the wireless adapter disappeared completely from windows XP it was not in system. so i did a reboot, but it still did not show up. I turned it off and pulled the battery, when i turned it on it worked. I hope its not a hardware problem.
