Did You (or your neighbour) "Keep the OLD" verion of Windows during reinstallation?

IF SO... you can find the product key in there... using a program to "See" what the product key was for that installation

the program is produkey from Nirsoft...
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

Download and run the program then Then press File > Select Source, you will be presented with a new menu. On this, select Load the product keys from an external Software Registry hive and you will be prompted to open a file.
Navigate to the software hive in the Windows.old folder and open the hive. E.g. D:\Windows.old\system32\config\software. It should now find your product key.

    Hope this is helpful

    quick answer ( no )

Thanks for your reply,IT'S A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED THAN I FIRST SUGGESTED. THE HARD DRIVE HAS BEEN FORMATTED.
The installation from the recovery disks fails at installing number 8 of the acer software. The ctrl, alt, and delete keys bring up a passworded
acer screen.trying to boot to a safe mode screen gives the message safe mode not allowed.

This is where my years of computing know how fails me.

    Thanks BRIAN8GBSSDLINUX FOR YOUR INPUT.
