Just thought I'd ask for me and for new users trying Mandriva on their AAO.

How did you get it to work?

If it involves upgrading the kernel, how do you do it?

    Thanks.

believe you can get it working by using the windows wifi drivers under ndiwrapper.

    This worked for me

To get your awesome wireless led to blink for you based on traffic, put these lines in /etc/rc.local,

    sysctl -w dev.wifi0.ledpin=3
    sysctl -w dev.wifi0.softled=1

    I got it from here

My WiFi LED blinks in accordance to the traffic and I did nothing other than install Mandriva 2009 Gnome.

+1 - I also installed Mandriva One 2009 (GNOME) this week, and the wireless LED did not function. Adding the two lines to the rc.local solved it for me.

It was running whatever the BIOS was from the factory when I installed Mandriva, but I since upgraded to 3307. Still had to edit the rc.local file to get the LED to work, though.

Are you running the SSD version or the hard drive version. I have the SSD version with the 0.3109 BIOS and have never updated.

It sounds like there are other differences in the HD version other than just the drive. I wonder if others that have the SSD version are having LED problems with Mandriva 2009 Gnome. I think I'll stat a thread to try and find out if you want to reply please look for the thread and post there and not here.

well i started this thread and im using ssd, sounds weird because from what i remember, tamrac had the same problem on his second mandriva install and on the third time, the light is working.

pretty weird if you ask me, since things come and go by using the same procedures.

    open the terminal, then type:

    su-
    [enter your root password]
    gedit /etc/rc.local

then a notepad should open up, add these two lines in the notepad that has opened up:

    sysctl -w dev.wifi0.ledpin=3
    sysctl -w dev.wifi0.softled=1

    hope that helps.

followed instructions, added to text to file and....

    nothing

not too bothered, as everything else seems to work, and Mandriva is really nice.

If you want a blinking Wifi LED, you cant use the ath5k driver; you need either the madwifi driver or ndiswrapper with the WinXP atheros driver. If what your really want is an indicator of wifi activity when using GNOME, add the nm-applet to the panel.
