I got an emachine em250. WinXP hangs on boot and will not boot regardless of choice... That's OK, I wanna reload windows anyhow...

So I hook up a USB drive and try and reinstall XP but when it get to where you choose which partition you want windows to go, it shows nothing...??? hmmmm

So I throw in a spare HDD I had lying around and it did the same thing...

    Any ideas?

Check your BIOS settings for which mode the HDD is running in, either AHCI or IDE. If it's AHCI you'll need to grab nLite and integrate the text-mode SATA drivers to enable WinXP to use the interface. If this is beyond your current capabilities, you should be able to change to IDE mode and you shouldn't have a problem installing XP.
