When I'm installing Windows 7 Ultimate do I need to keep the Acer Partition or can I delete all the partitions and start over?

That's exactly what I did when installing Win 7 Ultimate on my D250. You don't need to keep the recovery partition.

I actually tried to retain this partition when I installed Windows 7 on my machine.

...Unfortunately, upon a reboot, it would try to boot from the recovery partition and completely ignored my 7 partition. I ended up having to do away with it.

If worst comes to worst, I have a copy of Windows XP I could install on here.

Make sure D2D recovery is turned off in the BIOS and you shouldn't have any problems. Worst case, you can run a Windows Startup Repair should fix problems with the boot order.

I've read elsewhere on the forums that leaving the recovery partition in as a "recovery" source is useless if installing Win 7, as Win 7 will change boot settings, rendering the recovery partition useless.
