Hey, I got the original open office desktop logos but I liked the Acer ones better because they were orange and went along better with the theme. can someone send me the files? they're in /usr/share/applications
    i need writer.desktop, spreadsheets.desktop, and presentations.desktop

    Thanks!

I posted a thread about this called "First problem - strange one". Someone smart gave the solution that you can try out. I am at work, so will try it later today. Let me know if it works :)

Still need a workaround for those icons though, don't like the regular ones.

I am also assuming that this will be coming up a lot, whenever someone reinstalls OO.

i had the same *minor issue too so here goes.. :)

i uploaded the png's just in case but you can find them here: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps
though nothing special for OOBase, OOMath and OODraw.

hi Gru. nice to see we're on the same boat. haha. :)

EDIT: upon installing OO2.4, it *removed* the beautiful icons on the said folder.. the "just in case" came handy so download these files and paste them on whichever folder you like(on the SSD). i recommend placing them on the same folder. :)

    Hi,
I installed OpenOffice Base and had the same problem :D

    In /usr/share/applications I removed the %U.
and I can launch the Office Applications.

I downloaded the icons and put them in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps
but in the Desktop I still have the big OOo Icons.

    Why?

    Hi,
I think I solved my problem editing the file "group-app.xml": I addedd "icon="path to my icon" and the icon I want is there.

Please help still a complete beginner.

    How do you edit "group-app.xml"?
Also how do you access the folder containing this file?

I can find the file using File Manager and it opens in Firefox but I cannot edit.

    Any help appreciated.

xml, like html files automatically open with a web browser. However, you should be able to right-click on that xml file and do an "Open With" to select mousepad (the text editor) as the program to open them with.

Or you could open a terminal session and do ...

    mousepad ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml

... and edit it that way. Be careful editing the file. A miswritten group-app.xml file can lead to problems.

    Cheers.

Thank you for your swift response.

I can only reach the file in find hence no opportunity to open with. Only 'open' - which opens in Firefox or 'open folder' access denied due to nautilus not being installed.

So I have used 'mousepad ~/ .config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml' in terminal and get the message 'Error reading file '/home/user/': is a directory'

This seems to be looking in the wrong place - what am I doing wrong?

Update - sussed it - thanks for your help.

I had the icons in the wrong folder so I have now discovered the mv command and moved the icons over.

Then ran 'sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor' from Macles original document:

    Code:
    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/10/installing-openoffice-30-on-acer-aspire.html
on installing Open Office 3 - rebooted and its all sorted now! :D
