    Hi,

I'm thinking about buying 30-40 AA1s for use in a public library environment. I see that Deep Freeze Linux is only available for SUSE. Does anyone know of anything else (even basic) that will protect or restore the system on startup? Preferably, something not *too* challenging to put in place!

    Thanks,

    Ric

Depending on the specifics of what you're wanting to do....

One possibility is to use XenDesktop for deployment. It's an enterprise class solution - not something you'd get for free (well, they do have an express version IIRC that allows up to 10 machines to be deployed).

There might be other ways, including VMware's similar offering...

I'll do some checking when I get a chance, but nothing comes to mind right away....

You may want to have something like Linutop 2, it can be configured to reset to a standard config on every boot.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. We're definitely looking for laptops so that people can borrow them, so this may not work for us on this occasion. It is something I would consider if we look towards Linux-based desktops or kiosks.

    Thanks!

I took a quick look at both of their websites. I think the VMware solution could be suitable, but I'll need to do some serious work to figure out how it should be setup on the AA1.

    Cheers,
