My mom got a D255 netbook that had Windows 7 pre-installed on it and no recovery flash drive that would allow for a clean install. It has a lot of bloat/crapware and I was looking for some recommendations on what to keep and what to remove or for any alternative programs. Explanations about questionable programs would be useful. Direction to other helpful resources would also be appreciated. My goal is to make the netbook as lean and user friendly as possible as my mom is not that computer savvy and the majority of her use will be checking e-mail and facebook, basic word processing, listening to music, and uploading photos. I could probably figure things out on my own, but I'd feel better getting input from other more confident/experienced users. I also don't want to downgrade to XP. Using The PC Decrapifier showed the following programs:

    () Acer VCM.lnk
    () Adobe Reader Speed Launcher

I have the same computer and have removed all those marked in red. Some of those programs are trial versions (eSobi, MyWinLocker, etc), others are just crap.

Don't remove the eRecovey application (until you make "rescue disks"...that will be the only way to restore your OS should things go bad at a later date. Once you make the "System" disks (3 DVDs worth) and the Driver disk (1 DVD) using the eRecovery ap, you can remove it, as you will be able to boot into the recovery program with the first recovery disk. Other than that, I've removed exactly what Genome has, with no issues as well.
