I am having trouble getting my webcam working in my A150.

I have just done a fresh install of XP Professional SP3 as I am going to be selling it.

It used to work fine under XP Pro, but after I upgraded to Windows 7 it never worked, so I thought it was a Win7 issue, but now its not working in XP.

It has installed fine and shows up in device manager ok, but as soon as I try and use it I get a message saying that its not connected. I haave tried several drivers including the latest from Acers site, but not joy.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi,

no, could not fix the cam. I found some software, but it says wrong 'backend IC' and stuff. I bought a new used webcam from ebay. If you like to waste time, then write to Liteon and ask for a solution.

These are the files you would like to experiment with:
    N011_webcam
    VK221_VK222_Webcam_Firmware

Thanks, think I will do the same. I have seen them go for £5 on ebay delivered.

Did you find it difficult to pull the old cam from its connector - mine seems pretty tight?

It is a bit difficult, yes, but just hold the plug and draw it from the connector. Did you consider to get a 1.3MP webcam ? I think, they are interchangeable, but I've bought a standard one, because I don't use the webcam and second, I am not sure, if the Atom can handle that much data. Use some double sided adhesive tape (preferable from 3M) to hold the new cam in place.

I did have a Liteon cam, I insisted on buying a Suyin one, because, I don't want to have trouble again.

    Btw, what's your's webcam model number ? LIteon 08P017 ?

I will just buy the same as what's installed as I am selling the Acer, so I just want a working webcam.

Not sure of the model number until I remove it, but thanks for the removal tips :)

Re: Crystal Web Cam Problems - Update

    Just to conclude this post.

I ordered a new webcam off Ebay and fitted today. Hey presto it works. I am so pleased.

Now back to Ebay to list the Acer for Sale :)

    Thanks for the info.
Can the firmware of the camera be flashed again if damaged ?

It could be flashed again, if you could get the right flash software and the firmware, but it is much easier to get a new cam on ebay.

Thanks for the information. So I assume you couldn't find the proper flash software and firmware.
I've found several Crystal Eye webam on ebay, such as this one :http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ACER-ASPIRE-5...Computing_LaptopAccess_RL&hash=item255ba9c266
But they seem to be for a different Acer laptop model, would they be compatible with the Aspire One (the small black middle part of the webcam looks pretty similar to the one of the Aspire One) ?
